Abstract:

F-theory SU(5) unification has been proposed as an scenario where the mass of the top quark is naturally large, as opposed to type II SU(5) models. However, inducing masses to the lighter generations has proven elusive. We show how instanton effects generate the observed hierarchy by explicitly computing the  5x5x10 and 10x10x5 Yukawa couplings that are developed in the vicinity of a SO(12) and E6 singularities respectively.

In particular the speaker will discuss the computations for Yukawa couplings at the SO(12) and E6 singularity in detail. He will show how fluxes and non-perturbative effects influence the Yukawa matrix focusing on the effects that solve some phenomenological problems of conventional field theory Grand Unified Theories.

The seminar is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
