Abstract:

F-theory SU(5) unification has been proposed as an scenario where the mass of the top quark is naturally large, as opposed to type II SU(5) models. However, inducing masses to the lighter generations has proven elusive. The speaker shows how instanton effects generate the observed hierarchy by explicitly computing the 5x5x10 and 10x10x5 Yukawa couplings that are developed in the vicinity of a SO(12) and E6 singularities respectively.

In particular, the speaker describes how to compute Yukawa couplings in this class of models and how to generate a rank three Yukawa by virtue of distant D3 instantons. Also, he comments on T-branes which are needed to describe an auto intersecting matter curve.

The seminar is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
