Abstract:

Holographic duality opened a possibility of doing a new kind of string phenomenology. Instead of understanding possible UV completions of the Standard Model and string phenomenology, speaker has in mind brings new qualitative tools in the area of strongly coupled liquids and materials. In my talk, he will discuss two recent advances in the studies of hydrodynamics of strongly coupled liquids similar to QCD's quark-gluon plasma at RHIC and LHC:

1) Demonstrating that strongly interacting fluids can retain significant spatial anisotropy while being in the hydrodynamic regime;

2) Showing that relativistic hydrodynamics, as a perturbative expansion in gradients, is an example of an asymptotic series.

The seminar is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
