The Sen Limit

Abstract:
F-theory is a description of type IIb string theory with 7-branes at strong string coupling, somewhat akin to the way that M-theory generalizes perturbative IIa string theory. The correspondence between F-theory and perturbative type IIb is given by a limit found by Sen in ‘96/’97. Unfortunately Sen’s
description of the limit obscures many aspects of the correspondence. The
speaker
introduces a new and more powerful geometric approach which allows us to
derive a complete and natural dictionary.
