Overview

The IAS Program on Human Resources and Economic Development is a 4-week program focusing on the economics of education, human capital, and labor productivity in emerging markets and developing countries. The goal of the program is to promote research collaboration in these topics through close interactions among researchers. We anticipate that the program will generate valuable new insights into the process of human capital formation, including the development of both cognitive and noncognitive skills, how different dimensions of human capital affect wage and employment outcomes in the labor market, and how policy interventions can best support positive educational and development outcomes. An international conference on Human Resources and Economic Development to be held on 24-26 June 2013 kick-starts the Program by gathering leading economists from around the world, who will present and discuss their current research on these topics and consider how current and future research can best inform the design of effective policies.
